Redbirds in Clearwater
This is the first post I’ve been able to do about an actual game since today’s tilt against the Cardinals is the first one I’ve been able to watch on tv. It was a good game an featured Chase Utley in his first Grapefruit action.
Chan Ho Park started for the Phils. He went 4.2 innings, only allowing 3 hits and striking out 6. None of those hits came around to score.
Chase batted leadoff (I guess since the other two guys that lead off are in Miami, attempting to find some pitching so the US is completely embarrassed).
Chase went 0-2 with a strikeout and a grounder to Pujos. Did I expect anything better from a guy just coming off hip rehab? Maybe a little bloopy single. Hopefully, Chase’s swing improves as March marches on (I couldn’t resist =:) ).
Jayson Werth homered just after Chase struck out, the ball hitting the Frenchy’s sign over the tiki bar in left.
That was our only run in the game until the ninth inning when Miguel Cairo scored on Ellison’s RBI double.
the Phils beat the Redbirds 2-1.
Apparently, there was a swarm of bees outside the press box. T-Mac and Sarge talked more about those darn insects than about the game, at times. Not that I can blame them. It is a spring training game. It was 80 and sunny. Bees can be distracting. I completely understand.
Our defense looked good. Only Raul Ibanez erred, allowing a ball through his legs. I would have liked to see a tad bit more offense, especially with all the talk about this team not hitting with runners in scoring position during the world series.
The Phils have several good-looking prospects. Jason Donald is the best, in my opinion. And Jr. Mayberry, as per Harry Kalas.
And it was very good to hear Harry’s voice. It looked like he is healthy and raring to go for the regular season. Personally, I think Tom McCarthy packed on a few lbs over the winter.
my next post will be next saturday, since that is the next tv broadcast. I like to watch baseball, it gives me a better feel for how the pitcters are playing, the conditions, the general overall atmosphere.

First Game
Not exactly one we want to remember. But Moyer looked good for his first two innings of work since around midnight of October 25. Only allowed one hit, two walks and two strikeouts.
Blanton fared only slightly worse, pitching an inning, giving up two hits and a run to go along with his two strikeouts.
All the damage Pittsburg did was against our AAA pitchers Bisenius and Nestor. But boy, was it good to hear the sweet sounds of Scott and LA through my car radio!
Hopefully, as the weather warms, so do the Phillies’ bats. They managed seven hits but only two runs against what was Pittsburg’s bullpen and AAA guys.
I was glad to see Raul get his first hit as a Phillie, hopefully he does that April 5.
How did people enjoy baseball without television? I really cannot wait for real, live baseball on my TV. Won’t be able to enjoy Saturday’s game as I will be driving my brother’s car up from Atlanta to Philly over the weekend. All I had today was a radio broadcast and a box score. That limited amount does not do it for me, a true daughter of the modern age.
I like seeing it unfold on my giant *** screen in my basement. I like the instant updates available online and over my cell phone and ipod.

Pitchers and Catchers!

Pitchers and catchers reported today! One of my favorite signs of spring! As I type this, it is snowing in my corner of Philly. I’d give anything for sunshine warm weather!
The first day of spring training barely over, and we know who will be this year’s opening day starter. Yup, its WFC MVP Cole Hamels. *feigns shock* You expected maybe Brett Myers? I will be there in person April 5 at the Bank out in right field so see Cole chop the Braves into little tiny bits. No pressure or anything.
And apparently, several Phils spent the offseason in the gym as Howard is 20 lbs lighter and Brett shed about 30! Way to go guys. Glad to see the shine of being WFChampions hasn’ t gone to their heads…….
And what is it with Phils pitchers and leg tats? I knew Brett had one but now Madson!? Do they have special significance? Just interesting…….
See you soon!

Ryan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First baseman Ryan Howard just got locked up for the next three years at $54 million.
This is a great deal for both sides. I also believe that the Phillies believed they weren’t going to win their arbitritation case and didn’t want to get embarrased again. Ryan doesn’t have to worry about money for a while, which is good. Now he can go down to spring training and really work on getting his swing and defense stared early (like say, in April).

Me and Mom and Trophy!
This is me and Mom with the WFC Trophy at the Granite Run Mall in Media. It took us 40 minutes to get there from our house and we barely got in line at 6:45! They didn’t allow many people after us, only a finite amount of people. But the trophy itself is a beauty! All round and golden and shiney! A very perfect trophy!
Dad went to play poker rather than get his picture taken with this gorgeous piece of hardware. I can tell you, if this was the 2004 Red Sox WC trophy, Dad probably would have been there around noon, to be first in line. He takes his Red Sox very seriously. Not surprising since he’s from Beantown……
Arizona signed Flash….Best of luck to him and those desert serpents…I’m not inclined to be reall jolly about Phoenix teams after that pathetic excuse for a football team beat my beloved Eagles in the NFC Championship!

Trophy
Well, I’m heading down to Media tonight to get my picture taken with the WFC Trophy.
My thoughts on the Phils’ interest in Andruw Jones: I saw him all the time when I lived down in Atlanta. He was a beast during those years. But he’s a bit tubby now and his power just isn’t there. I don’t believe he could make a difference. He didn’t for the Dodgers.
I do agree we need a righty bat off the bench. And possibly another lefty reliever, at least until JC returns from his bogus suspension.
Will have pics tomorrw!

My First Entry
Nothing really about the Phillies. Just wanted to introduce myself. Steelers won the Super Bowl, Pennsylvania now has the past 2 titles.
I am 24 years old, female. I quite literally eat, sleep, and breathe sports in Philly. If you knew my parents, you’d understand why. They are diehards who passed the passion down to their children.
I hope to be able to comment about every game, if given the time. Just give my thoughts and impressions on the game of baseball.
